Extend International Homestays
"You help me during short time abroad. Thank you very much. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope we can see each other again........" Reiko (Japanese Homestay student, aged 14)
Host families from MLC are needed for 2008 Japanese Cultural Exchange program. The exchange programs are delivered at MLC and Wesley, and give Japanese students and host families a unique insight into other cultures. Japanese students will be attending both Junior and Senior Schools in 2008 programs.
No special requirements are needed to become a host family apart from a spare bed and the desire to make friends from another country (you don't even need to speak Japanese).
The Japanese student is expected to become an extra daughter/sister within your family and as such, participate in your normal daily routine. Language skills quickly improve when immersed within the family situation. The students undertake English lessons each morning followed by excursions in the afternoon. Travel to and from school is usually with the 'host sister.'
A contribution of $30.00 per night is offered towards the cost of hosting a student. Homestay placements are usually arranged on a single basis, however, families are encouraged to host students in a number of programs if they wish.
Each visiting Japanese school group is accompanied by English speaking Extend Staff and tour guides, and they travel on a direct plane flight from Japan to Australia with no stopovers. All host families are given full support in hosting a Japanese student including an information pack, 24 hour hotline contact, program outlines and helpful suggestions on hosting students.
If you would like to register your interest in hosting a Japanese Student in one of our 2008 homestays, please contact Extend on 9818 2139 or email enquiries@extend.com.au
