International Homestay

The Extend International Homestay program allows students from Japan an opportunity to enhance their ESL skills as well as learn about the Australian culture with their host family. Since 2004 Extend has welcomed 256 enthusiastic and eager students from Otsuma High School, Tokyo in partnership with the school community at Methodist Ladies’ College in Victoria. Students take part in a structured ESL program at Methodist Ladies’ College which also involves excursions to popular attractions. By staying with an Australian host family, international students have the opportunity to practice their English speaking skills and gain an insight into Australian culture.

Japanese Homestay students are carefully matched to the most appropriate host families. English speaking teachers and tour guides accompany each Japanese school group. Extend provides Japanese speaking co-ordinators for all programs.

All host families are given full support in hosting a Japanese student including an information pack, a 24-hour hotline contact (who is Japanese speaking), program outlines and helpful suggestions on hosting students.
